Italian kiwi is allowed to be exported to China through refrigerated ships

Recently, the General Administration of Customs announced that Italian kiwi will be allowed to be transported to China by refrigerated ships from September 7.

According to the transportation requirements, kiwi must be shipped in an independent cabin, and goods exported to other countries and regions cannot be loaded in the same cabin. The cabin shall not be opened before arriving at the Chinese port, and can only be unloaded at the designated port in China. Each batch of goods shall be provided with adequate measures to prevent the re infection of pests, and each pallet shall be covered with a mesh film with the maximum aperture less than 1.6 mm (except for kiwifruit with a sealed bag or a mesh bag with the aperture less than 1.6 mm).

The cold treatment of kiwifruit can be carried out before shipment or during transportation. When the kiwi fruit transported by "refrigerated ship" arrives at the port of entry, it is required to provide the cold treatment report of each cabin, the fruit temperature probe calibration record, etc. If the cold treatment of a cabin is deemed invalid, the kiwi fruit in the cabin shall be returned, destroyed or cold treated ashore.

Italy is the world's leading kiwi fruit producer, and the annual production season lasts from November to May of the next year. In September 2020, Italian kiwi was approved to be exported to China by ship. At present, the annual import volume is about 6000-7000 tons.
